Vintage Kilim
Handmade from vintage textiles that began life as Anatolian rugs. Character, soul, texture and depth — each cover elevates any space it lands in, and no two will ever match.

We source and design one-off and small-batch textiles that are rich in soul, purpose and story — intended to be interchanged, layered and added to over time. Inspired by the messiness and earthiness of everyday living, and designed to get better as they age in your own home.
Every HEF piece begins somewhere real — a wooden loom in Tangier, a grain sack in rural France, a rug reborn as a cushion. Here’s what that means for your home.
Our vintage kilim covers started life as Anatolian rugs. No two are alike — each carries its own character, flaws and all.
Vintage collectionOur Berber blankets and cushions are woven on wooden looms in Tangier by Samir and his team, using traditional methods. Natural variations make every piece slightly unique.
Made in TangierStudio HEF rescues delicate linens, intricate Hmong textiles, vintage grain sacks and designer off-cuts headed for landfill. Limited fabrics — when they’re gone, they’re gone.
Studio HEFMudcloth is dyed by hand in Mali with fermented mud and plant dyes. It softens, deepens and settles in — a piece that grows into your home, not out of it.

Named for the Beni Ouarain weaving tradition, this one earns its place on the sofa from day one — a grounded, hand-finished cover that anchors brighter layers and only looks more at home with every year of use. Pair it with a kilim one-of-one and a pom-pom throw for the full HEF stack.
From the journal
A collected sofa shouldn’t look styled — it should look lived in. Five rules we use on every sofa we touch, from a first flat to a forever home.
Read the full guide →Let the sofa itself stay quiet. Colour and pattern should come from the textiles — the covers and throws you can swap as your taste (and the seasons) change.
Three or five cushions read as collected; four or six read as a catalogue. One kilim statement piece, two quieter linen supports, and stop there.
Smooth linen against nubby kilim wool, a pom-pom edge against flat mudcloth. Keep the palette within one family — clay with clay, ink with ink — and let the textures do the talking.
A long lumbar at the base gives the arrangement its spine. Place it low and central, then lean the larger squares behind it at a gentle angle — never bolt upright.
Drape a Berber blanket over one arm with deliberate carelessness. The mess is the point — a sofa that invites you to sit down beats one that asks you to admire it.
